You know that feeling when you’re out having coffee with a friend… or you bump into someone you know at the grocery store… and you think to yourself, “I really need to talk to this person about my opportunity. I haven’t done anything yet to build my business today?”

And then, afterwards, when you fail to share your opportunity with them, you feel really guilty about it because you know you’re not any closer to your dreams of residual income?

How would you like to never have that feeling again?

Let’s face it.

We all hate talking to people who aren’t interested in our opportunity, and none of us would do it if we knew there was a better option available.

It’s about as enjoyable as chewing on broken glass and somehow, at a gut level it just doesn’t feel right.

So Why Do We Force Ourselves To Do It?

Well, a lot of us have been given the impression that it’s simply the only way to do this business.

Many of us have been told that the very core of network marketing, the very reason it’s so powerful, are the one-to-one relationships that allow us to immediately connect with our prospects and have our message heard above everyone else’s.

Remove the “one-on-one” aspect and you no longer have network marketing.

There are three main reasons we’re repeatedly ingrained with the idea that this form of direct selling is superior to all others:

*t’s more effective than other forms of advertising.
It’s the only way “the little guy” can compete with the big companies and build a business today.
It’s duplicateable.

But is all this really true?

Let’s take a look at each one of these arguments.

#1. “Direct selling is more effective than other forms of advertising.”

The average person today is busier than ever before and the amount of things competing for our attention is at an all time high.

We’re constantly bombarded with as many as 1,600 to 3,000 different ads or marketing messages every single day.

Because of this, we’re told that the only way to cut through all the noise and get people’s attention is through personal, pre-existing relationships.

An individual is actually able to get much better market penetration with their “circle of influence” than a big company with a huge advertising budget because “people buy from those they know, like and trust.”

Right?

Now, at face value, this seems to make really good sense.

But if you’ve made even the smallest attempt at expanding your business through your warm market, you know that something’s not quite right with this picture.

Were you greeted with open arms by every friend, family member, coworker, referral and
acquaintance you’ve ever tried to prospect?

Did they happily whip out their checkbook and immediately buy from you because they know you or because you’re a friend of a friend?

Probably not.

In fact, you’re probably more familiar with the experience of being avoided or shunned by people the moment they found out what your real motives for talking with them were.

So much for “cutting through all the noise” right?

So why doesn’t it all play out perfectly the way it should? Why the big disconnect between theory and reality?

It’s because…

Direct Selling, Regardless Of Whether
Or Not You Already Know Someone, Is
Still A Form Of Interruption Marketing

You’re still intruding on people’s lives with the one thing people hate almost more than anything else: An unwanted sales pitch.

Sure, you’ll be able to get your foot in the door because they know who you are… but it doesn’t matter if you’re their best friend or a total stranger, once you hit them up with a sales pitch, all of that goes out the window!

You’ve just placed yourself in the same category as all the other solicitors they ignore! It completely voids the fact that you have any kind of relationship with them.

Any trust between the two of you has been damaged because people don’t like being taken advantage of. And that’s how they feel when you assume that they’ll automatically give you their money just by virtue of the fact that you know them.

Especially if you’ve used some sneaky, bait-and-switch “I just want you to evaluate what I’m doing” or “I can’t explain it, you’ve just gotta come and see it for yourself” tactic that many uplines teach and employ.

(Deep down inside we all know this instinctively because that’s not how we would want to be treated. That’s why it just doesn’t feel right when we push our stuff on people.)

More importantly…

Any Pre-Existing Relationship You Have With
Anyone Is Completely Meaningless If They
Don’t Already Want What You’re Selling

This is the most important and fundamental rule of marketing and it’s prerequisite to everything else.

If you’re not abiding by this rule, NO form of advertising is going to work.

In fact, person-to-person is actually the worst form of advertising for practicing this sort of “interruption marketing” because with something like television or a magazine ad, your prospect can simply change channels or turn the page if they’re not interested. No big deal.

But nothing is more uncomfortable than having to turn someone down who won’t take “no” for an answer. Especially when you’re trying to be careful and polite about it because that someone is your friend.

It’s also a lot harder and more wearing on you because you personally have to deal with the rejection over and over again (another thing that we humans don’t do well with), as opposed to an ad that couldn’t care less.

While the whole point of direct selling is supposed to be to allow you to breakthrough all the other advertising clutter, there’s actually a much better and more natural way to accomplish this.

Effectively getting someone to listen to you has nothing to do with communicating at a one-to-one level.

It’s all about whether or not you’re tapping into a need or desire that already exists.

If you’re not offering them something that they’re already highly interested in, you’re not going to be able to hold their attention and you’re certainly not going to get them to take action.

The REAL KEY to getting and keeping your prospect’s undivided attention is to deliver laser-targeted messages to them at the exact moment that they’re looking for answers.

Good Marketing Is About Delivering The Right
Message, To The Right Person, At The Right Time.

This is how you stand out from the crowd and the internet allows you to do this like no other advertising medium in history because what are people doing when they go on the internet?

Searching for information!

This is the exact state of mind you need someone to be in in order for them to be receptive to your offer – not when they’re having dinner or out grocery shopping.

The very nature of the internet is that people go on it to look for answers. It’s like a giant virtual yellow pages, except infinitely better and more powerful (in ways that I’ll talk about more in future emails).

It’s THE perfect pool of prospects – warmer and more receptive than any “warm” market.

Which brings us to the next point…

#2. “One-to-one marketing is the only way “the little guy” can compete with the big companies and build a business today.”

We would all love to advertise and have business come to us if we could right?

However, we’re told that the average person just can’t afford to do normal advertising like “the big boys” can and one-to-one, word of mouth marketing is really the only option available to us small home based business owners who don’t have a lot of money to start with.

Now, 20 years ago when everything was offline this *MIGHT* have been true…

But today with the internet, this argument is simply outdated and no longer valid.

Reaching mass audiences of hundreds of thousands of people with an advertising campaign in the offline world can cost as much as a small house.

With The Internet, These Same Numbers And Results
Can Be Achieved For Nothing Or Next To Nothing

Let me give you some examples…

To take out a full page ad in The Washington Post, which has over 2.4 million readers, you will need to fork over a hefty $100,000.
On the other hand, The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, which has a circulation of about 370,000 readers, will only cost you $15,000.
* A typical full page ad in most magazines will cost you anywhere from $20-40 CPM. This means ‘Cost Per Thousand’ – the cost per thousand viewers or readers. So if you want your ad to be seen by roughly 100,000 people, it may cost anywhere from
$2-4,000.
* Depending on the type of postage you use and a few other things like printing, paper, mailing list rental and lettershopping, having your offer sent to 100,000 people through direct mail can be in the neighborhood of $50,000 or more.
* With production costs and air time, a 28 minute infomercial can easily run you up a good $200,000.

Now, compare this with similar methods on the internet:

Youtube
Cost: Free.

Reach: Sky’s the limit. Just now as I’m writing this email I went and looked up some videos about how to start a home based business and found a bunch that have gotten
54,542 views… 34,197 views… 74,907 views… 12,959 views… etc. All of them were done by individuals in their home. None of them were done by big corporations.

Article Marketing
Cost: Free if done manually, or for less than $200 you can have a good professional service do it for you for an entire year.

Reach: Hundreds of websites with thousands of regular visitors pick up your articles and distribute them.

Cost: $1-5 per thousand impressions, depending on the websites you advertise with (an impression is when your ad is shown) So to have your ad shown 100,000 times would cost between $100-500.

Natural search engine listings (Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc)
Cost: Time.

Reach: Thousands to millions depending on the search terms you’re targeting.

Ezine Advertising
An “ezine” is an online newsletter and when you advertise with one, your offer gets emailed to the entire list of subscribers. This is one of the most effective methods for targeting huge crowds of people who are interested in your offer. There are
hundreds of home based business/network marketing ezines you can advertise with, but here are just a few examples that I found in about 10 minutes of looking through an ezine directory:
-$150 to have your ad sent to 470,000 subscribers
-$135 to have your ad sent to 280,000 subscribers
-$99 to have your ad sent to 100,000 subscribers
-$50 to have your ad sent to 37,000 subscribers
-$35 to have your ad sent to 20,000 subscribers

With the internet, anyone can advertise like the big companies, and in fact, in many cases, the “little guy” can do it a lot better.

Most Fortune 500 companies are just now starting to get up to speed on strategies and techniques that were being talked about and used with tremendous success 5-10 years ago by pioneering individuals and small home based business owners.

This may sound surprising, but did you know that during the 21st Century, 90% of the most significant breakthroughs and discoveries in science and business came from small businesses?

Why?

Because it’s very difficult for large, slow-moving, bureaucratic corporations to adapt and change.

The Fortune 500s and the Inc 500s – just like the vast majority of MLM companies – failed to adapt to the internet and are now playing catch up. (Actually, they failed to allow their
DISTRIBUTORS to adapt to the internet).

Is it really any surprise that the warm/cold market approach has become outdated?

After all, network marketing was first conceived of well over 50 years ago.

Things change. Techniques change. That’s okay.

This does NOT mean that MLM itself is outdated, just the methods that people are being taught to use. It’s more powerful now than ever, when combined with effective marketing strategies.

One more thing about this idea that home based business owners can’t advertise like the big companies can…

Notice how I said that “20 years ago when everything was offline this *MIGHT* have been
true…?”

Well, the reason I say “might” is because if you advertise like MOST distributors do, this statement is true.

You WILL lose money. Every time.

When Done Wrong, Any Kind Of Marketing
Is Expensive – Even Warm Market Prospecting
Which Is Supposed To Be Free

Most MLMers lose money because they don’t know WHAT to advertise (hint: it’s not your
opportunity).

However, when done correctly, all of your advertising expenses become a complete non-
issue.

Read that again.

WHEN DONE RIGHT…

COST IS IRRELEVANT.

Yes, even the most expensive kinds like direct mail.

On to number three…

#3. “Warm/cold market prospecting is duplicateable.”

This argument goes right along with the first one.

If we’ve already established that prospecting people who don’t care about our opportunity one at a time is NOT an effective form of marketing (and in some cases, one of the worst forms when done incorrectly), why would you want to duplicate it?

Of course the whole point is supposed to be that making a names list and calling those people is supposed to be something that absolutely ANYONE can do without needing any money, skills, or experience whatsoever (not true, by the way)…

But in reality:

2nd Rate Methods Lead To
2nd Rate Results

Many MLMers might look at this and ask (as I would have in the past), “but didn’t John Paul Getty say that he would rather have 1% of the efforts of a hundred men than 100% of his own?”

And he did. But what he left out of that famous saying is that in order for it to apply, that 1% has to at least amount to SOMETHING.

The fact is, the old school techniques of trying to sell to unqualified prospects usually yield zero or even negative results for most MLMers and only ends up in frustration and failure.

And this is all assuming that the warm/cold market approach really is duplicateable in the first place.

But this is hardly the case.

It’s too dependent on how big your warm market is… what kind of people it consists of… and how much influence you have with them.

The problem is, most of us are not positioned very well as someone who our family and friends would see as a good person to follow into a business venture.

And in either case – whether you’re trying to recruit in your warm or cold market – when you’re prospecting people who have expressed little or no interest in your product or opportunity, only the most tenacious and pitbull-like reps can achieve any kind of consistent, ongoing success. Usually those who have had lots of experience in previous
sales positions.

Does This Mean That One-To-One
Communication Is Completely Out?

Absolutely not.

It’s simply a matter of shifting and redefining your idea of how and when to use it.

It’s just as important today as it ever has been – WHEN used correctly, with the RIGHT people at the RIGHT time.

Developing one-to-one relationships with your top business builders and your best prospects is very important…

But it’s definitely not needed for ALL your prospects. This tedious grunt work of sifting and sorting can and should be automated.

Most people find that when they do this, they literally get TEN TIMES the results.

No exaggeration. In fact that’s quite normal.

Here’s an example of just one such success story:

“I’ve Already Made Over $6,000 In
Commission Checks And I Have Attracted
Over 500 Prospects Who Came To Me”

“I’m a 22 year old Bulgarian and I came to this country about two and a half years ago. I came here to go to college and I’m pretty lucky because in my first few days of coming into this country I was introduced to the network marketing industry.

I am going to hit a soft spot here, but you really need to think about this because it is very true.

Remember when you were little and anything was possible? What did
you want to be? A doctor, a fireman, a pro athlete, a rock star, a
teacher… what was it? You remember…

I love watching my kids play because their minds have no limitations.

Thinking about this made me ask myself a while back, “Why do so
few people have dreams these days?”
It’s because people are afraid and think, ‘Dreams cost money.’
But dreams are what make us succeed in life.
Dreams are what we all deserve to reach in our lives!

One of the more important values I have found with ViSalus^(TM) is how

The Law of Sowing and Reaping As Applied to Network Marketing, by Jim Rohn

The Law of Sowing and Reaping is so very clearly played out in growing a Network Marketing Business. It is the thorough understanding of how it works that enables us to discipline our disappointment and keep sowing, and ultimately succeed in Network Marketing.

In Mark 4:3-8, Jesus says:
There went out a sower to sow:
And it came to pass, as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up.
And some fell on stony ground, where it had not much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth:
But when the sun was up, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away.
And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit.
And other fell on good ground, and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased; and brought forth, some thirty, and some sixty, and some an hundred.

You, as a Network Marketer are the ambitious sower with excellent seed. You have drive, determination and are ready to spread the word. Your seed is good. You have an excellent company, with an excellent product and you have been given just the right words to say.

But the facts are the facts, and we are told clearly how this world works in the parable above. There are some things that are indeed, inevitable.

#1 The birds are going to get some of the seed.
You can give the invitations, and even get confirmation that some guests will attend… but then they will not show.

Oh well! Some will, some wont, so what!

Don’t chase those birds,for if you do, you will leave the field. You aren’t sowing if you are chasing. Chasing will distract from your future, not add.

Its better to just accept it as it is… for you were told: The birds will get some of your seed.

Now, if you keep on sowing, you will eventually plant enough that the birds cannot eat it all, and you will get sign ups into your business. Unfortunately…

#2 The seed falls on rocky ground where the soil was shallow. On the first hot day it withers and dies.

Those wonderful signups who seem so gung-ho? Some are going to drop just as soon as the excitement wears off. The hot weather is gonna get some – this is not of your making.

Some don’t stay. Attrition is real. Sure, there are things you can do to make sure your people have everything they need to stick if they are going to… but some wont no matter what you do!

You cant solve this. You can only cooperate with things the way they are…

And keep on sowing! You need to discipline your own disappointment and keep on prospecting and showing the plan.

You will sign up more people, and make more money, as long as you continue to sow. You will enroll more people and you will find that…

#3The seed falls on thorny ground. The plant starts to grow again, but the thorns choke it and it dies.

Some of your new people will let cares and distractions choke their business. The unfortunate fact is that people will let little things cheat them out of big opportunities.
They wont listen to the conference calls, won’t make it to the local training events. They’ll let ‘real life’ as they see it get in the way of their dreams. They wont make the dream money either… and then they will choke, and fall away.

Its just the way it is…

The good news?

The sower keeps on sowing, and

#4 some of the seed will fall on fertile ground and will spring up and grow.

As long as you keep on sharing the story, keep on giving the invitation – finally the seed falls on good ground.

The fact is, it always will, if you keep sowing.

This is the way the world was made.

Dont try to figure out WHY, just work with it!

Now the last piece of this is that the people you enroll will work their business with differing intensities. You cannot change them, and should not push them.

The parable says that some will work at 30%, some at 60% and some at 100%. You can never expect a 30%er to do the work of a 100%er. Instead, you must acknowledge and water the sprouts of the 30%ers… and keep on sowing!

A beautiful effect of your continuing to sow? Your skill level will inevitably increase. You have be be bad before you are good and good before you are great. So initially, you may find that you aren’t very good at inviting… but you totally make up in numbers what you lack in skill! And the act of running the numbers will result in your getting better at prospecting and closing.

In short – get to work sowing, and don’t quit! Just understand the way the world works, and roll with it!

Future Shock: Why Online Content Syndication Is the Premature Arrival of The Future

In the world of Internet Marketing, it is said that ‘content is king’.
That’s only half the story, of course, because if your content is buried, it cannot be found- that is, unless there are lots of good maps back to it, through social media marketing!

Those who are at the forefront of marketing knowledge have been doing something called ’syndication’ of their content and using social media marketing for quite some time. It’s how we appear to be everywhere at once, and also how we dominate the search results for whatever keywords we choose. Until just a few short weeks ago I achieved this syndication of my content by outsourcing my marketing – to my VA.
Effective? To a point, yes. But the results are absolutely minuscule compared to what I have found by implementing the SYNND system put together by the guys over at Social Media Science to outsource my marketing.

In preparation for our upcoming book, Charles Heflin and I were asked the following question by the other co-author, Richard Dennis:

“Charles and Tom, what is it about content syndication that blows your mind?”

Since I’m older and cuter I went first…

OK, I know, having your “mind blown” is a rather dated colloquialism, but it still manages to get the job done, and just about everyone knows what Richard was after by his question. So here is my answer. Actually, to be honest, it’s a SUMMARY of my answer. You must read the book to get the complete picture (you knew that was coming, didn’t you?).

What blows my mind about content syndication is that it is the ultimate END GAME for all current and future successful online marketing; yet only a minuscule number of people understand its immediate and long term effects and implications. Even fewer know how to execute a successful content syndication campaign. Now stop for a second… and read this sentence again. I’ll wait…

If this statement is ANYWHERE NEAR true then you have every reason to dissect, explore, test and literally devour what I’m about to share.

Content syndication currently exists in a kind of “FUTURE SHOCK” state, to borrow Alvin Toffler’s description. He defined Future Shock as the “The premature arrival of the future.” This is exactly how I view the current state of content syndication.

It’s “premature” only in the sense that the online world is not ready for nor do they expect the outcomes and massive success that content syndication will generate, especially when it’s executed properly, as we have demonstrated and continue to perfect at SocialMediaScience.com.

It’s the “future” in that content syndication is where ALL future online marketing is heading, regardless of whether people like it or not. In the very near future EVERYONE will be forced to abide by what will seem to be a very stringent code. But it’s not stringent to those of us who have practiced these syndication protocols for years and LOVE THEM because of the results we get, time and time again.

Even the words, “Content Syndication”, both alone and together are packed with stellar meaning. Quality, relevant “Content” describes the number one motive and goal for every person engaging in an online SEARCH. The primary goal of ALL search engines therefore is to deliver this quality, relevant and easily digestible CONTENT to all its users. The search engines KNOW that this is the ultimate end GOAL.

What is mysterious and baffling here is that most online marketers also know about the role of quality content. Around the world millions engage in various kinds of SEO strategies as a costly and often unpredictable solution. They understand the “trees” but for many reasons they have yet to see the “forest.” Believe me, once you see the FOREST and you understand what this vantage point offers, you will kick yourself for not seeing it sooner. It’s as if Fort Knox has stacked its gold bullion onto the center of Times Square and day by day people walk by and see only shiny metallic images, with less than 1% of 1% ever stuffing one of those valuable gold bricks into their backpack. The FOREST and the GOLD BULLION is CONTENT SYNDICATION.

In the next few years the search engines will finally perfect their search architecture to such a degree that they can superimpose their MASSIVE CONTENT SIEVE onto every combination of words and phrases that people so glibly submit as CONTENT. Expect the Net as we know it today to undergo the most massive and complete CONTENT HOUSE CLEANING since its inception. We have already seen smaller versions of this grand WORD PURGE; but you ain’t seen nothing yet! Expect this grand daddy of them all to be on the horizon soon.

Online marketers are fond of calling this “The Google Slap.” Well, call me a seasoned sadist, because I LOVE it whenever Google slaps me (and rest of the net). “It hurts soooo good!” Why? Because when they do this I see yet ANOTHER reason why content syndication blows my mind and another reason why it SHOULD blow yours. It’s like cleaning up the streets of New York City so that the hard working, honest and law abiding citizens can walk freely and enjoy the fruits of their labors; which for us content syndication advocates means more READERS and more SALES. Whenever the net get’s SLAPPED I win, because I know how to leverage my content by syndicating it on the new and cleanly swept syndication sidewalks that Google cleared off just for me and for everyone else who VALUES true content. And just think; now we get to do this without all the hindrances and trash that used to line the content roadways of cyberspace. Do you get the picture?

Lastly, what blows my mind is the word “SYNDICATION” itself, and the various meanings it conveys. Have you ever done a study on this word? Do you know what it means to “syndicate” something? For example when applied to online content I discovered that to syndicate means all of the following:

1. To BROADCAST through multiple channels.

2. To CONTINUE to broadcast through multiple channels on a REGULAR basis.

3. To syndicate so often and so well that you DOMINATE your content niche, topic or keyword. For example, when we say things like, “Las Vegas is still run by the Syndicate,” we are implying that a “Syndicate” is a group of people who have established themselves as a powerful multichannel force, one that will not be EASILY MOVED.

4. Isn’t this EXACTLY what we want our content to accomplish…to dominate our chosen niche so that NO ONE can move us aside…ever?

Now consider this. When most people think of content they automatically think of something written, like an article, blog post, press release, etc. But as my friend, Russell Wright, reminded me recently, content means any “item” that is capable of embodying meaning and can be distributed through typical online channels. When you consider the implications of this you have to get excited. As the average online business owner begins to explore and understand the value and the mechanics of content syndication expect to see a tidal wave of new approaches to online marketing.

OK, if you have followed me this far you have either concluded that this guy is on to something historic and monumental or that he is a complete idiot mind freak toying with my lack of knowledge and worse yet, my emotions. Obviously, you must be the final judge, and I welcome that. I’m not trying to be cute or flamboyant about all this…(OK, so maybe I am a little). The point is that you owe it to yourself to find out if these predictions and forecasts are based in truth. If you discover they are then I suggest you begin now to learn how to live and succeed in the state of CONTENT SYNDICATION FUTURE SHOCK…because it has already arrived and it’s here to stay.

The facet of content syndication that blows my mind is its leveraging power.

Thanksgiving, Live Life with an Attitude of Gratitude

Its that time of year, when families all across North America gather to celebrate “Thanksgiving”, a time to give thanks at the end of harvest time.

This year, let it really sink in that Gratitude will get you exactly where you want to be in life. It is an attitude of Gratitude for what you have, that will open the door for you to have more.

I am grateful to have learned this KEY. As a result of giving thanks and credit where it is due, I have completely transformed our lives.

There were a couple of KEY books that helped to solidify this truth in my mind. Of course I read and listed to “Think and Grow Rich”, but “The Science of Getting Rich” spoke volumes more to me about the importance of Gratitude.

It is said that a wise man’s prayer is one of Thanks.
Let that sink in…the prayer is one of thanks.
Not one of ‘please help’, but rather of ‘Thank you for taking care of this for me’, and a easy acceptance of the gifts bestowed, even if not yet received.

The highest understanding of how we are able to attract what we want into our lives is that you must see your life as it WILL BE. This is also the most difficult thing for humans to do… to see things differently than the eyes actually perceive – but it is the KEY.

When I learned the proper way to pray, things in my life began to shift. My ‘luck’ increased and I began to see the life I had envisioned take shape around me. Then I was told about another book with a goofy title – “I am Rich Beyond My Wildest Dreams, I am, I am, I am”. This book is far easier to read and took me further than I had gone before. It gives very easy to follow instructions on how to become wealthy -seriously wealthy. Where Hill and Wattles speak an odd language, Thomas Pauley speaks just like you and I do… and gives it really straight: You need to ask, accept your gifts, and give thanks.

Please take my advice and read the “The Science of Getting Rich” now, and order yourself a copy of “I am Rich Beyond My Wildest Dreams, I am, I am, I am”.

To change your life, you must first change your mind. There is no way around it. You are subject to God’s Law of Attraction whether you work with it, or not – so you may as well get with it!

Now back to that Thanksgiving thing, and Gratitude. Try this out, please!

Practice the feeling of gratitude NOW. Take just 20 seconds to relish in it. Know that you cannot be negative or feel sad when you are grateful. Its also impossible to criticize or complain when you are in a state of Gratitude. Gratitude opens up your ability to attract more of what you want, because you appreciate what you already have.

Gratitude is the way forward. Practice it today… and every day for the rest of your life. I can tell you with certainty that this practice will bring forth a future of abundance. Simply remember to ask, and be grateful, knowing that it is coming. Take inspired action when opportunity presents itself, and reap the rewards. You deserve it!

Can I really tell you all I have learned about MLM in one single post?
Highly doubtful! But I can certainly hit upon some of the highlights and can tell you about some pitfalls to avoid.

I have been working a home based Internet business since late 2000 ~ and for about the first 3 years it wasn’t a huge success. I worked with less than fantastic companies, with less than fantastic training and support and made some money because of my *lucky* nature… and skills that I developed along the way.

Because I needed to stay home with my small children, I learned how to build a business using just the Internet and the phone. I learned how to generate my own leads online, and also honed my prospecting and closing skills. Once I aligned myself with a decent company with a good payplan, I worked my way to a very sweet income.

Of course, Network Marketing, or MLM, is traditionally offline direct sales. Often called ‘relationship marketing’ or ‘word of mouth’ marketing, it is the movement of product through the distributors to their sphere of influence. With most companies you can get started for under $1000, and you have a truly unlimited income potential.

Sounds fantastic, right? Well, it should be. But there are some pitfalls to avoid, and some advice I can give you to keep in mind as you consider investing in a MLM company.

Quality Products in Demand:
First and foremost, since money is made from the sale of ‘product’, you must ask yourself if the products would be bought and sold if there was no money making opportunity available? In other words, do you feel you would be able to acquire CUSTOMERS for the products?
Are they of a superior quality, and priced at least somewhat competitively?
If you think for a minute that you are only buying them to make money, and will sell only to people that want to make money and so on… walk away.
There absolutely should be product focus, and customer acquisition should be taught and promoted within the company.
If you choose a company with excellent products, you’ll be able to make money all day long with customers. Solid, residual income from happy customers who will give you referrals all day long!

Compensation Plan:
Payplan is also incredibly important. Unless you have been around the block a few times you won’t know what makes a good payplan. The best you can do is take a look at a few similar companies and compare their compensation plan. Which is going to pay you the most money for your work?

Marketing system:
If your Network Marketing company knows something about MARKETING, you will make a whole lot more money with less work!

Do they have an online system that you can direct your prospects to? It makes no difference if your prospect came from a Chamber meeting business card exchange, an ad in the paper, or a pay per click ad on Google. They must enter their name, email and phone on a capture page and be taken to a presentation. An email series should them followup with them automatically on your behalf. Of course you will call them ASAP too-
Does the company provide the marketing system for you, or will that be an additional expense?

Professionalism:
What is the corporate culture like? Attend conference calls, local meetings, webinars, etc. Are the founders, the CEO and their top representatives on the calls behaving with professionalism? You might be surprised at how many do not. I have been on some horrible calls, and even worse meetings. Be very careful who you align yourself with!

Training:
Your sponsor will tell you ‘full training and support is provided’. Thats the nature of MLM. The sponsors do the training of those they enroll. But how is this done? Is there a systematic method to training you so that you will know exactly what you need to do to put cash in your hand that week? Or is it just ‘get some customers or enroll somebody and you’ll get paid’. Is your sponsor qualified to train you? If not, who do you have access to that IS?
The best case scenario is that corporate has a training program in place and you can plug your new people into it immediately. Thats how you can truly leverage your time. Your job then isn’t so much to train, but to develop leadership in yourself and others.

Finally… we werent born Network Marketers, but thankfully this profession has come into its own and there are many excellent, professional trainers we can and should ‘plug into’.
Always be a student, and know that each experience, whether its a win or a ‘failure’ is part of your marketers education.

Stay consistent, be persistent, and make your fortune in MLM.

I was amused to learn the words “Web 2.0″ and then later, “Attraction Marketing” . As a home based business owner who built my business using the Internet and the phone, I had been using those methods to build my business long before there were labels attached. In fact, the coining of them was such a non-event for me that I missed an opportunity to corner those SEO terms – bummer! The term “Attraction Marketing” is absolutely huge now and the experts abound!

Network Marketers across the world are embracing the “New School” way of building an MLM business by tapping into the millions of prospects who are online looking for ways to become financially free. They are learning how to set up their blogs, build capture pages and how to market those sites using social media like twitter and facebook, search engine optimization and video marketing. My friends and family know what I do – and they are my CUSTOMERS. They aren’t entrepreneurs, and I wouldn’t prospect them for the business opportunity. But they do BUY MY STUFF!

If you are a closet entrepreneur, you are missing a huge profit zone. Get over it already and be the professional you strive to be. Introduce your product or service and let everyone know what you do. Would a paycheck for doing so really be so bad?

There is so much more to this- pages and pages worth. But you really must know that all of the internet marketing prowess in the world is not going to make you residual millions in MLM. You simply must learn the skills of Relationship Marketing. Your upline leader making 6 or 7 figures can tell you how to build a huge business. Listen!

I need to buy a pair of running shoes, and quickly! I feel the overwhelming need to go running, and don’t have the proper footwear. Why the urgency??? Well, if you suddenly felt the overwhelming desire to do hard core exercise, wouldn’t you want to act right away, before you convinced yourself you weren’t really capable? I figure I’d better ‘get on it’ before the urge subsides!

I don’t think I’ve owned a pair of actual running shoes since college. Sure, I’ve had ‘gym shoes’, but not full on running shoes. My last pair was probably worn out and thrown out at least 10 years ago. They were a pair of ‘trail running’ sneaks, as I used to run in Helyar Woods just beyond Cook College of Rutgers University. I remember those morning runs vividly – the sites and smells of the Northern forests are still with me today. Before Helyar woods, I ran on the South Downs behind Sussex University in the UK. What an enchanting run that was! Everywhere you turn in the English countryside you half expect to come across fairies, or at least a fairy ring…

Today, I am blessed that I have a large nature reserve close enough to run to – and in. I fully intend to see the wonders of these Southern woods and allow my running spirit to roam.

Over the last 10 years or so I have often thought that I ’should’ run. Running would be a fast track to getting my trim figure back, as running is an efficient way to turn your metabolism into a full time hot burning furnace. But every time I though of it, running seamed a chore, and one I convinced myself I had no time for.

Today, I feel I have no choice but to run. I have been on this fitness challenge for 46 days, and I am stronger, healthier and have more endurance than I have had since University. I feel the only way to fully USE this new power my body has is to RUN.

I will obey this overwhelming need to run. I will get my shoes tomorrow and run for the first time in over 10 years tomorrow evening. I am taking this Challenge to the next level!

Do you find yourself floundering along in your business, maybe making a few bucks here and there- but not the money you actually NEED to make in order to stop struggling?

I have a few rules that you must follow beginning today-

#1 Make sure you set up your online presence properly the first time around. You need a self hosted Wordpress Blog and to learn to create your own customized capture pages. If you intend to build your business professionally, you cannot start with inferior tools. You need to go pro. It will cost you about $25 bucks!

#2 Study the Master Marketers.
I have learned most of the methods I use from observing the marketing funnels of the top marketers. I study thier copy, their video style, the type of capture pages they are using – where they take me after I fill out the page… and on and on. most of what I learn, I learn from observation, not necessarily from buying courses.

Now, to clarify, I do own EVERYTHING the top marketers in my niche put out. I will never pass up an opportunity to learn from Mike Dillard or Ann Sieg. That would be stupid! Those two not only teach me a ton, they also pay me an awful lot of money every month!

#3 Learn and APPLY
You can study all day long, but if you aren’t actually creating anything, if you aren’t taking ACTION… well, you simply cannot earn. Many people fall into the trap of being a constant student. Of litening to another training, or reading another course, or doing anything at all to avoid working…

But I can tell you one thing for certain: the people who you see making the big bucks got there by taking all out massive action to reach their goals. You must do something poorly before you can get good, and good before you are great.
Bottom line is, you must DO something.

Which brings me to the subject of this post…
Even if you do a fraction of what the master marketers are doing, you will do well. Or at least better than you are right now.

So, when you see a sales page that says ” I earned 25k this month with XYZ” think to yourself… well, I’d be happy to make $2500, just 1/10th of that. Or even, an extra $250 to start.

If you started your business in Network Marketing and have been using the traditional strategies of building your business, then you may not have a clue as to why I am telling you that you should build a ‘list’ if you want to make huge money in MLM. In fact, it may be totally foreign terminology, so I’ll try to break it down easy.

First of all, this is certainly not the ‘only’ way to make a whole lot of money in MLM. This is just the way I choose to build my business. There are many extremely successful millionaires in MLM who never once built a list! Heck, there were millionaires in MLM before there even was an internet… so don’t get the idea that I’m saying my way is the only way.

I can only tell you what I have done that works. I have chosen to build my business using the internet and the phone. I was advised 4 years ago to learn to generate my own leads and learned quickly that my self generated leads had a much higher conversion rate than any I purchased. 3 years ago I began to generate my list, so that all of the leads I generated were in one autoresponder and could be mailed about anything at all I liked. That means that leads I generated for a business 3 years ago that went out of business… are still my leads. They did not get left behind in some ‘system’. I paid with those with money or sweat, and I’ll not give them up! You should be as attached to your leads as well – they are extremely valuable to you.

I continue to generate prospects online using various capture pages that I design- and have had tremendous results, including enrolling well over 200 people into my business over the course of a year.

Earn Extra Money in Your MLM with Less Leads

Increase your prospecting and closing skills and you can make a whole lot more money in your MLM with far fewer leads. The converse is also true… With poor communication skills you will have to generate hundreds more leads to make ANY money!
If you are working hard to generate your own leads online, it is essential to increase your communication skills. As you do, you will see your results dramatically improve. It’s highly probable that if you are brand new to learning to generate leads online that the number of leads you generate at first will be few and far between. That’s just reality. I’d like to see you get the maximum results for your efforts!

In order to maximize your efforts, you will need to call every person who requests information about your business opportunity in a timely manner. Your upline leader should have given you some sort of script and simple process to take your lead through to get them from lead to distributor. If you do not have anything like that to work with, or if you want a script for every scenario under the sun, I recommend the Script Book by Dani Johnson.

You want to become really good at reading the script to your prospects. I didn’t say great, nor did I say expert, I just said “good.” Good enough that you aren’t getting hung up on! You may even want to buy some MLM leads generated by an advertiser and call through them to practice, so that when you generate your own, you are ready to connect with them on a professional level. The only way to get good is to first do it badly. Make those calls – lots of them, consistently. If you suck at prospecting, get better. You don’t want to blow it with your own leads.
An experienced Networker can take a “crappy list” and find the diamonds in it and convert them to distributors. They have honed their skills and can take the very same scripts you are “bombing” with and elicit less rejection from the very same prospect you got a “no” from. The only thing that is different between you and the experienced networker is practice!

Do you want residual millions or some pocket change? Are you willing to become an expert Network Marketer? If so, you have some work to do. Hone your prospecting skills right alongside your marketing skills. Make it part of your daily routine to listen to training and apply it.

Sure, you can become an expert marketer and have people sign up in your business if you drive enough traffic. If that is your plan, you are leaving a ton of money in your list of people you never called. And the people who did join you? They need a call to get started correctly. Please do the right thing. Learn to be a network marketer, not just a recruiter!
What separates the “wannabes” from the Residual Millionaires? The willingness to invest in their education and increase their skill set. I hope you are willing.

Google Adwords doesn't allow advertising of MLM, Network Marketing schemes or Affiliate sites! The game is over, we are all doomed to using SEO to get our sites found... or are we?

Of course Google doesn’t have it out for home based entrepreneurs. They simply hate cookie cutter replicated websites! In fact, they will not allow you to advertise a replicated site, or a domain name that has been forwarded to a replicated site, even if its masked. This isn't new news... just seems that way after many MLMers set up their new adwords campaigns after purchasing PPC Domination and found that their campaigns were being shut down by the droves.

So what is a online marketer to do? If you cant use the most effective advertising medium available online to generate hundreds of leads daily, how are you going to jump start your lead generation efforts? The answer is quite simple, yet I’ll bet 98% of the networkers reading this have not mastered this skill yet.

What is the solution?

Create your own capture pages! I do know how intimidating this sounds – it took me 3 years to even contemplate it. Once I did, I simply used my Dreamweaver software and went for it. I looked for capture pages that other successful marketers were using, created a ‘swipe file’ of phrases that I liked, and I hacked together capture pages. I purchased an autoresponder and learned how to insert the code on the page… got over the mystery of the FTP to server thing, and jumped for joy at my creations! Why? Because I was finally the one in control of my pages, and my lead lists. I did not have to pay anyone else to use their ‘system’. I was an independent business person, creating my golden list.

Folks, the Milletic’s family's future was rewritten when Mom learned these skills. Sounds dramatic, but it absolutely is true.

Learn. If a high school science teacher could learn to hack together websites after her children were asleep (ME) – You most certainly can.

Building Your MLM Lead List through Legally Stealing Other People's Lists.

One effective way to quickly generate subscribers to your MLM list is to use the ‘list builder’ services that are available to the online marketer. These are large lists of hundreds of thousands of active online marketers that you can send your ad to. Most of these services have a free option, but it is not valuable to you, unless you build up a downline in their system. If you go for the free option, you will be able to email as many random members as you have referrals to the list builder system. Of much more value to you is one of the paid memberships that allow you to mail to thousands of list members every couple of days. When you have access to thousands of online marketers, you have an excellent opportunity to test your ad copy. You can and should use these mailings to craft your subject lines, email copy, and squeeze page copy to see what converts best. That way, when you take your ads to other sources, like ezines, or your squeeze pages to Google Adwords, you will be working with a refined product.

Below I have compiled a list of the list builders that I currently mail to on a weekly basis. I am a paid member in all of these sites, so the results you see are for mailing to THOUSANDS of online marketers every week. $197 OTO Not worth it in my opinion. Lots of clicks, not a lot of action. Only slightly better than safelist advertising. Perhaps its worth it if you use the ‘build multiple lists’ feature where you enter the ids of several list builders you belong to and your downline signs up through your links. You can earn up to 1000 ad credits for each referral too - not too shabby.

You want to have massive success, to be a self-made millionaire? Then you must be willing to re-program yourself. Otherwise you are operating in default mode – acting in response to what the world hands you, instead of living a life by design.

98% of the population will go online and find a business to join and then go into ‘learning mode’. They will learn the comp plan, the marketing system, the scripts, and how to advertise. They will learn and learn… but not apply.
They will then blame their lack of success on the company they joined, rather than on themselves. It’s always something outside of themselves that isn’t working, not them!

How are you going to be part of the successful 2%? You are going to Learn and Apply. You aren’t just going to study how to market your business, you are going to take swift, decisive action and begin NOW. You are also going to learn how to effectively communicate with your prospects. Generate Leads through the Best Online Home Based Business Forums

Posting in network marketing discussion forums is a totally free way to generate leads from an extremely targeted audience. But you MUST go about it with professionalism and integrity. If you have never set up a forum profile before, now is the time to do so. This costs you no money - just your time.

I have been generating leads from forums for about 3 years. At first, I did it absolutely the WRONG way. I went into any forum I could find, and I SPAMMED them! I took my well planned advertisement, started a new thread, and stuck it out there. I was even rude enough to go back a day later to respond to my own thread in order to bump it up! As you can imagine, I received a lot of terrible responses from the active participants of the board - and NO leads. Let that be a lesson to you. You never, ever want to go into a discussion board and open a thread with the express purpose of advertising your business. Each and every forum that is business oriented will usually have an advertising section - that is the ONLY place that it is appropriate to post your ad. If you post your ad elsewhere, or hijack a thread about a competitors program, that is considered SPAM. If you include your link in the body of your message, that is also against forum rules and etiquette.

There is only ONE place for your link, and that is in your signature file. Most forums will have a "profile" section that you can access to upload a thumbnail picture (highly recommended), and to add your signature file. Most, but not all, forums use USB codes so that you can link your text. That is, you can create a one line ad and hyperlink it so that it goes directly to your lead capture page. The code will look like this:

[URL=http://www.YOURCAPTUREPAGEURL.com]Your One Line Ad[/B][/URL]

Once your profile is set up correctly, and your signature file is a clickable text link, you are ready to "go." Look for threads that have been viewed many times and/or have many replies. These are the threads to spend your time in. Once you have found a decent thread that is on a topic that you feel you can speak on - then add your 2¢ to the discussion. Again, you are joining the discussion in progress, and your comment should be relevant to the topic. Just typing in "me too" or "I agree" is NOT the way to go. You want to be respectful and respectable, and watch your grammar and spelling. I know your mother told you that if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all. Well, this is particularly true on a message board. You NEVER want to get into an argument on a forum. You want to spread good will, helpful advice, and to instill confidence in YOU as a leader. That last part may take a little time, but it's incredibly important to your success. If you are going to spend ANY time attempting to generate leads this way, then you must be effective at this. If you become a "regular" on the boards and have a presence that people respect, then you can and will generate endless leads. That's attraction marketing in action!

What kind of boards should you post on? Forums that relate to your business, or relate to a subject you are either very knowledgeable about, or have a great interest in. The first seems obvious - to find targeted, opportunity buyers, post where they are reading. The second is under utilized, and therefore even more powerful! If, for example, you are a gourmet cake maker, find a board where other cake makers worldwide go to discuss the craft. I can virtually guarantee that most of the people on that board will NOT have a business link in their signature file - therefore YOUR link will stand out and will get a lot of clicks, because people are innately curious. They HAVE to click on your signature to find out how you are making money online!

Use Google to search for relevant forums. Once you have found a few active boards, save those links in your favorites, and try to post at least five different replies on five different threads at least two times per week. By keeping your signature file at the top of those boards, you cannot help but generate leads!

What are the best online forums to generate leads for your network marketing, mlm or direct sales business? After years of working to generate leads online, there are a few forums that stand out as the best for generating leads. There I have created specific tracking links for each forum to determine which sites get the most action. You should do the same.
Don’t take my word for it – do your own research here by creating a tracking link to your capture page and tracking the hits and conversions. After a few posts over a couple of days, you should be able to determine if the board is active or not. If you are using aweber, this is a simple thing to do. Simply replicate your capture page for each board and insert a new webform into the new page. That way you will know exactly how many hits and conversions you are getting from each site.

WAHM.com Work at home mom’s forum has a section just for networkers! One of the most ‘trolled’ sites online, you will generate great leads from members of the forum, and those who are just reading threads. This site is a Mom’s board- but has many Dads on it too… but I think I speak for a lot of Moms on the board when I say there are plenty of other sites for Dad’s to hang out on. Leave WAHM.com to the Moms!

MLM.com has been in place forever! This board doesn’t allow a signature file, but does enable you to add your link to your profile. If you contribute high quality info to discussions here, you will create a very targeted lead. The individual had to go to extra trouble to connect with you!

HomeBasedBusinessForums.com– definitely geared to online networkers with extensive content on online marketing techniques.

Now, I am certain there are more, and you will tell me all about them in the comments section, right?
Remember, Time is Money, and a self-generated lead is the BEST lead. Spend an hour or so a week posting in forums after you are done with your prospecting and follow up calls for the day. You WILL generate leads from forums and bring more income into your life as a result if you follow the instructions I have outlined!

Having Laser focus is essential to success in your home based business

"Success can be defined as the progressive realization of a worthy ideal." - Earl Nightingale.

If there is one thing that I have learned that has put thousands a week into my pocket - it is to stay laser focused on the desired goal until it is achieved. For me, that means tuning out outside influences that would distract me from my home based business, or appeal to my emotions and perhaps even make me think that my goal was not worthy!

What do I mean?

Well, if you work online you no doubt have experienced information overload. You get hundreds of spam mail messages per day that you must wade through to find the gold you seek, and if you are researching how to succeed in your business – you can very quickly find yourself on a long winding ride to nowhere.

If you intend to succeed – if you KNOW you will succeed if you could just get down to what works – then please follow these instructions carefully so that you too can put thousands in your pockets!

First and foremost, find one company and stick with it for the long haul. Unless you find yourself in a business that you truly do not like, or if you find that it’s corrupt in some way – or they go and change the comp plan – stick with your company. Do not let anyone or anything tell you that they have the better deal. The grass will always seem greener, the money will always bigger with another company. Now, you are in business for yourself and you are not ‘married’ to a company – but I’m telling you that you will get NOWHERE fast if you are a company jumper, or an mlm junkie. Do your research and find an excellent company (yes, they are out there!), and stick with it until you succeed. You will be far more likely to succeed if you know the company and comp plan inside and out than if you leave it behind assuming it ‘didn’t work’, when in fact, you didn’t work it. Most residual millionaires have built those fortunes by building one business HUGE. They create a story for themselves, build momentum, support a team and ride off into the sunset living their life by design. That is what you want isn’t it? You are ultimately working for freedom – for the residual millions. So stick where you are. If you aren’t happy where you are- then learn more about your company – meet some of your key leaders and see why they are there. You may just find that doing so, really learning your business, is all you need in order to love where you are! You have to see the vision to work it long term. If you really hate your company- find your new home quickly, and then get down to WORK.

Now, put your blinders on. Ignore the mail that wants to tell you about the next big thing- the voicemail blasts that want to sell you the voiceblaster, the people who purchased your name and want to tell you about their deal. Ignore it COMPLETELY. It is of no use to you, it will not make you successful in your business. Do not surf the net looking for the next big thing, the magic traffic system, the worlds best lead source, the automated downline builder… Don’t even go there! The internet is an energy sucker – a vampire sucking away the precious productive hours that you have to build your empire. Just STOP surfing.

Your upline leaders will share with you the tools they use. Do not recreate the wheel. Use the system that is in place to build. If your direct sponsor is not terribly successful, go upline until you find the leader who will help you. A true leader should be able to direct you to the tools to help you to build in whatever way YOU choose. There are many ways to build and you need to find the ways that resonate with you. Whether you want to build online or offline, or both- your upline leader should be able to give you the system that works to put in new reps. Once you are making 30-40K per month, then maybe you can get fancy and try new methods- until then, be teachable and use the system in place!

I know you are still waiting for what will put thousands in your pocket – right? The answer is – WORK. Work your business like mad to build your financial fortress. The speed of your success depends only on your level of belief and your massive action. You need to KNOW that if others are earning the big checks- you can and will as soon as you expect success. Stay laser focused and work the system. Ignore the distractions that you encounter online – don’t join another company – don’t go looking for the magic bullet. Plug into your system and WIN.

You Cannot Afford to Watch TV

You cannot afford to watch TV. Really, you cannot. Do you have any debt? If so, sitting on your butt in front of the boob tube is not going to get you out of your predicament any faster. You can be certain that you are in fact cheating your family out of thousands of dollars in residual income, and a lifetime of fun and freedom! So what will it be ?… the brain numbing telly… or living up to your full potential?

The sad fact is that for many, it will be the telly. In ‘the Strangest secret”, by Earl Nightingale, it is said that a full 95% of people are content to just get by. Only 5% of us are true entrepreneurs, willing to learn and apply and grow into our full potential. Of the 5% who will become financially independent, only 1% become wildy successful and truly rich.

Where do you see yourself? Do you have a burning desire, huge dreams and an imagination that keeps you awake at night? Or are you sitting on your butt, living vicariously through the characters on the screen. Or worse, letting your beautiful mind be poisoned by the violence and trash that passes for entertainment?

You truly must change your mind before you can change your bank account. One of the most glorious aspects of a network marketing business is that you MUST grow in order to earn. You must change your stinkin thinkin, you must learn to use the master key.

One of my friends says it this way – “you’ve got to stop being right if you want to be rich.”

In other words, it’s time that you listened, learned and applied and simply got down to work.

I know that many of you are out surfing for the ‘magic dust’ that is going to make your business run on total autopilot so that you don’t have to actually work…

Folks, this isn’t like your job where you work as little as possible and will get paid regardless. If you treat your network marketing business the same way you do your job, your dreams will continue to be just that. Dreams, wishes, could have beens.

Your business requires massive exposure. That means that each and every day you must work to put more prospects into your pipeline. I’ll bet that your upline has given you some ways to get that done? If not, have you gone further upline to find the answers you need? Are there people making money in your company? I’ll bet there are, and if you aren’t its not the company or the comp plan or your sponsor’s fault. It’s yours. You need to keep going upline till you find the answers you need. I said the answers you need- not the answers you WANT. The successful people in your upline will tell you what they are doing to succeed. Just DO it. You may have to step out of your comfort zone to begin to make true change in your life. You may need to learn new skills and apply them on a daily basis until you become at least proficient, if not professional.

You didn’t buy a lottery ticket, folks. You bought a business. Just because it was cheap, doesn’t mean you don’t have a million in potential earnings waiting for you.

Get to work. Turn off the tube.

Generate prospects (time)
or

Buy prospects (money)

Connect with them via the phone and use the system your upline has taught you. If the timing isn’t right for them, let the system you have in place follow up and keep them in the loop.

How many people should you expose to your biz on a daily basis?
3-5 a day is part time
10 a day is full time
15+ a day is big time.

Have you made that many connections yet today? No? Turn off the tube.

Consistently fill your pipeline and know that this is not a slot machine or a microwave. Your prospects will join when the timing is right for them. That may not be today – but if you stick with your business long enough, you may find that an extraordinary number of them join you sometime down the road.

So are you ready to make today a day of extraordinary change? Just decide, and it is DONE!

Your Online Home Based Business Success: 3 Reasons Why You Should Use Your Own Customized Capture Pages

I can track my path to success in my online home based business back to the decision to learn how to build my own capture pages. That decision marks the day I began to make life changing income, and the day I began to build my own LIST.

Why did I choose to learn to make my own capture pages? I was tired of being dependent on someone else’s system that I was paying $19.95 + a month for and had zero control over.
I was watching the evolution of marketing a online home based business and knew that I needed to put my own FACE on my captures ~ and once I did… everything changed!

At the time, I was working with a direct sales company and managed to convert sales of up to 9K using just my videos. I never even spoke to the customer! It was all done through video capture, personalized autoresponder followup and more video…
I used customized capture pages with video, and made a ridiculous amount of money.
I don’t know that the strategies I employed then would work today, as the market has changed, but the point it still powerful.

You will make more money when you use a customized capture page.
Why is this true? It comes down to 3 facts:

1. Your picture and/or video on your capture pages will always convert subscribers better than any replicated site could. More subscribers = more prospects in the sales funnel.
2. Personalized autoresponder messages will always convert more subscribers to sales. Emails written in your voice are obviously not canned sales pitches. Your subscribers stay engaged in the sales process longer and may convert over time.
3. Search Engine Optimization can only be achieved with your own hosted capture pages. That is, Google can index your page and this will get you free leads. Your replicated site page from your company will not get you the same results.

Once you know these facts, you should feel overwhelmingly compelled to create your own captures! Seriously, why would you work harder, for less money? That’s essentially what you are doing when you advertise your company replicated site!

Before I give you the instructions on how to build your own capture pages, I want to make sure you understand that your capture page serves one purpose – to get your visitors to subscribe. There should be no links that leave your capture page. The only option your visitor has is to fill out your form, or leave. Seriously! There are several systems on the internet that have you put links to your blog, Twitter, MySpace, Facebook, etc. It seems like a good idea on the surface, but in the end, your prospect is LEAVING your capture page, and you did not capture their details. So keep it clean.

Your capture page should give your visitor a good reason to fill out your form and subscribe to your newsletter. Visit some “superaffiliate” sites and look at their capture pages. You will find that the best are short, compelling, and ultimately get you to act.

Remember, there is only one option – fill out the form, or leave. There aren’t links to go anywhere else! When you create your own company specific capture page, make it short and concise, giving them just enough information to entice them to fill out your form.

What is a Magic Blog Post? Should you care about it?

Is there a “Magic Formula” for creating a blog post that will guarantee that it ranks high in the search engines for the keywords you are targeting on your home business blog?

Well, almost! Nothing can guarantee those kinds of results, but as with anything else, following ‘best practices’ is key to your success in blogging for home business!

Recently I attended an Internet Marketing Masters Seminar that completely blew my mind! The speakers totally spilled their guts about what works to dominate the internet for your niche. I was left with incredible strategies to implement, and I just KNEW I had to share them with YOU!

Magical Blog Post Formula

Use a question as the title of the blog post
That way, when someone types into the search engine “How do I …”, they find your answer!
Start the post with a story. Any kind of story... real, or imaginary!
Reiterate the problem, or restate the question you are addressing. Remember, your post provides VALUE, something to help the reader solve a problem (like, how to get blog traffic!).
Give a short, bulleted list of solutions or steps to the solution.
Explain the solution and the steps to implement it.
Give a resource that can help them to get bigger, better, easier, faster results.
Add an internal link and an external link to your keyword/ keyphrase.
An internal link is a link that links back to another page on your blog that is relevant to the blog post. An external link will link it to another site on the net that is relevant.

The "Magical Blog Post" is half of the solution to the problem of a blog that sits without any traffic. The other half is "The 6 Step Process to Drive Traffic to Your Blog" . When you create your blog posts with the Magical Formula, then drive the traffic, you can be certain you are working with the strategies that internet experts use to rank in the search engines.

Follow Up: Which Autoresponder is the Best?

Which Autoresponder is the Best to build your Home Based Business list?

Once you have the methods to generate thousands of targeted visitors, you absolutely MUST set up a follow up system. If you are not following up, you are losing a TON of money. Allow me to explain:

Not everyone who are people who do not act immediately when they see a good thing. There visits your website is going to sign up or buy from you immediately. Thereare also people out there that will talk themselves out of any form of success. Get yourself an autoresponder. I have significantly increased my conversion rate by doing so, as people will often come back weeks and even months later and sign up!
Auto-responders are essential.

If you do not know what an auto-responder is, you must learn now. You will need to learn how to use one in order to automatically follow up with people via email. Statistically, a potential customer needs to see your ad an average of 7-12 times before they are confident enough to make a purchase. An auto-responder series will follow up with your leads via email and substantially increase your conversion rate.

You will need to choose between an autoresponder that you 'rent' on a monthly basis, or one that you buy and host yourself. The review of autoresponders below will help you to decide what autoresponder is best for you.

Autoresponders paid for with a monthly subscription

Aweber offers affordable monthly subscriptions for their auto-responder services. They have more features than are usually available with your standard auto-responder, and they have free version to check them out. This is the autoresponder of choice for top marketers. If you intend to create your own capture pages and build your list, this is the responder of choice. This is the responder I currently use in most of my campaigns.

iContact is another choice. Similar to AWeber, but with one significant advantage. IContact will allow you to import subscribers that you generated in another system. You can import them and begin to send them mail without them having to confirm that they want to get your mail. This is not to say it is something you would import purchased leads into. But if you generate leads with some kind of affiliate system, you can import them into iContact and mail to them.

Autoresponder software you buy and host

I personally use Autoresponse Plus to import the leads I have generated from the various affiliate programs I promote. This allows me to email them without having to send them a confirmation email. I can follow up with them FOREVER, or until they opt-out. You would be surprised to know how many people have been on my list for YEARS before joining me in my primary business.

I host my Autoresponse Plus at Host Gator. When you buy the licence for the software, they will install it on your server for free. You then have ultimate control over your list.

It is imperative that you learn to use your auto-responder to automatically follow up with your potential customers. Learn to advertise your home based business effectively and use an autoresponder series to follow up -- you will produce sales. Leave off the autoresponder, and I cannot say the same.

How do you drive traffic to your home based business blog?

After all, a blog on the net will not simply attract people on its own. It is not a case of 'If you build it, they will come.' If you already have a LIST, you have a ready audience. If not, then just like any website on the net, you must do the work to get it indexed in the search engines for your targeted keywords.

In other words, you've got to make sure that people find you when they do a search for what you have blogged about!

It all began about 8 years ago with the 'magic juice' my chiropractor gave me. Now, the name of such juice is irrelevant. You know the stuff. It costs a bundle and cures all ills. In fact, it will even bring you eternal happiness if you share the wonders of the juice with enough people - the company will cut you a nice big check. I looked at the brochures of how you get paid to share and went to work - as we certainly needed the $$$! I was home raising my daughter while my husband worked a stressful job that was literally draining the life out of him! That magic juice company went out of business - but that was of no consequence because I'd already started surfin the web to find my million dollar business. I had another magic juice, some fun green fairy dust and even some air purifiers and water purifiers to boot. I was trying to sell everything, in any way I could. And I did - some of it. I learned early on that I was a success- the voice of God spoke loudly that I could do ANYTHING and I listened...and maxed out my cards (I'm sure that was not what God meant!). I began to seek out the people who had their smiling faces on the net claiming their gazillions in network marketing. I would ask them really dumb questions and as such, they had no answers. They would all tell me to join their deal- but that wasn't the answer I was looking for.

You see, I could use a script, website, sizzle call and lead list and I could sponsor. Oh yes- I had no fear. But I KNEW, just KNEW that the big dogs weren't paying for leads. They were generating their own. But they wouldnt tell me how...

I knew there was nothing different between me and them, except that they were doing something I did not yet know how to do- and I was determined to figure out how it was done. The net was a different place then - this information wasn't free!

I went to work with a very well known company and made every promotion that put in front of me. I got every pin, watch, blanket, track suit - whatever they put out. I got all that STUFF, but really very little money. The residual income dream seamed to belong to others- I couldn't crack the code. I didn't know it was because I was working with a totally crappy comp plan... that knowledge would come later.

In June 2005 my husband was laid off from the job that was killing him. I did a happy dance and told him - YEAH! Now I can focus on my MLM and we can get RICH! Meanwhile, he was crying to my Mother that I was crazy to think we can live on Love (we can, cant we?). That very same month Mike Dillard's Magnetic Sponsoring landed in my lap. Lightning struck, the stars aligned and my destiny unfolded. (Yes, it was that big a deal!)

I had learned a bit along the way about what the big dogs were doing. I was generating my own leads and doing pretty well navigating the net and thought myself quite accomplished. When I got Mag Spon, it wasn't that the info was all totally new- but rather that it brought everything together for me. I used the Magnetic Sponsoring affiliate program to keep us afloat - while I went to work as a TEACHER!

I was working as a sub in the Philadelphia school district and coming home in the evenings to generate an extra hundred or two a day with Mike's program. I stopped working the MLM with the crappy comp plan and just focused on the "now money" and on honing my lead generation skills. I connected with thousands of networkers and began to build my database (LIST). I called many networkers while I sat in the passenger's seat of our Suburu wagon - making the bold move to Florida where I would work to get my teachers certification. That fall I taught myself html so that I could build my own capture pages. It was only another few steps to build www.SponsoringSuccess.com , link it to an autoresponder and mail out to the leads I'd generated from Magnetic, as well as the new subscribers I would begin to attract.

Folks, I branded myself, built my website, managed the newsletter and then made HUGE MONEY in direct sales - while working 40 hours per week as a high school science teacher! I also have 2 small children. I am indeed superwoman - because my WHY is huge.

Wait - did I say huge money in direct sales?- I did. I began to apply my skills to market direct sales and was making truly crazy money- it blew my head up so big I didn't even THINK about the teachers certification. I was certain that after the second year I would never return. Why on earth would I??? I was making big bucks and the future was so bright, I didn't see what was coming.

A little over a year ago the big one hit us. I will not go into it here, but know that our family was hit so hard that Momma was no longer able to work direct sales. When you don't sell, you don't earn- and my income dropped to well below the level of sustainability. For almost 6 months I was not operating at full capacity and really just kind of tread water with my business. The old FEAR had come back - fear that I was really incapable of living the dream. I did what I felt was SAFE, and I went back to work - and to get that teaching certification.

I know that we are truly blessed. I am so very thankful to an industry that has taught me that you must change your mind in order to change your bank account. Everything has fallen into place for us, in such fantastic ways. Please allow me to explain.

In January of 2007 a networker named Tim called me out of the blue. He said he was on my newsletter list and knew I was marketing "big ticket", "top tier" companies. He asked me what I was doing with the people who couldn't afford them the high ticket opportunities, and I had no answer. Now, I normally don't listen to pitches about anything- but something told me to Google this guy. I also asked him why the heck I should even listen to him... and he told me what he'd done in the past. Impressed enough by what he said, and certain that I could get double mileage out of my leads with this little MLM deal... I joined joined and got to work. I funneled my leads who couldn't afford my other programs right in, and had a decent little team - but I still had no faith in that MLM model that I was sure would pay me peanuts...

Remember the calls I was making to the Magnetic Sponsoring leads in the car on the way to Florida? One of them led to a truly life changing event. On that ride I spoke with a woman named Holly Powell, and in July of 07 she joined me in my MLM company (that is a lesson on the power of the LIST too, people join you YEARS later). Within a month she was a "Regional Executive" and I suddenly got a residual check for over $500. Now, remember, I was just barely working- barely thinking, barely treading water- and I get this check for over $500 from the little MLM deal.

WAKE UP CALL!

Wait, there is real residual income here? Is it possible that if I went to work here I might actually live the residual income dream I'd been sold all those years ago? Possible? Absolutely!

In August I went back to teaching high school science... and worked my MLM part time. In October the company integrated a marketing platform, and things really took off. I mailed my database (my LIST) and was enrolling at least 25 people each and every month. I hit "National Executive" and watched my residual checks grow and considered leaving teaching In January. However, I had not yet finished my certification and felt the need to finish what I started. I worked up till June 2008 as a High School Science teacher and built my residual income up with my MLM. I got my certification, graduated the Seniors - and resigned.

I'm free.
I'm home with my family...

Oh, did I ever mention that my husband hadn't worked since being laid off in 2005? Supermom worked all day and networked all night and Dad stayed home with the kids!

What are you capable of?
